UTA Flute Festival announces 2020 Maverick Flute Soloist Competition finalists

The UT Arlington Flute Festival has announced this year's finalists for the 2020 Maverick Solo Flute Competition. Consisting of players from three categories of high schoolers, undergraduates, and graduates and professionals, all finalists will compete live in Irons Recital Hall in the Fine Arts Building on Friday, January 24th from 7-9:00pm. They each will be performing one solo piece they had submitted with during the preliminary round along with Hope Beohm's piece, A Distorted Fantasy for Solo Flute. Winners will receive gift certificates to the Carolyn Nussbaum Music Company.

Following the competition, the winners of each division will be announced on Saturday, January 25th in conjunction with the UTA Flute Festival. This annual festival will be a packed day with events including guest workshops, masterclasses, games, and, of course, the awards ceremony. Attendees may also sign up for an opportunity to perform and receive feedback from a friendly judge. 

This year, the festival will feature guest artist Marianne Gedigian, the Professor of Flute at The University of Texas at Austin Butler School of Music. She will be performing in a guest recital during the festival on Saturday at 3:30pm. 

The UTA Flute Festival is a great opportunity to meet new flutists and improve playing skills. Admission to the flute festival is $10 pre-registered or $15 at the door. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra performs at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center On November 22, 2019, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra showcased a program featuring worldwide renowned virtuoso Maxim Vengerov. This program, the second performance of its kind that weekend, was a demanding collection of the Bruch Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in G minor, Ravel's Tzigane for Violin and Orchestra, and Prokofiev's Symphony No. 6 in E-flat minor, Op. 111.
